Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

I am linking today with Everyday Rurality.
It is time for this weeks questions.

1. Alison asks: What's the biggest obstacle you've overcome or need to?

Fear. Sometimes I get so fearful I am frozen. I think I have been working to overcome it all of my life. Sometimes I see it creep into my posts and It upsets me but always it is there. When I was younger I was agoraphobic. I couldn't leave my house. I was so trapped and I had to overcome it step by step. I started by just walking out to the end of my driveway. It threatens to return all of the time. I make myself go out and drive and yes, sometimes I get so sick with panic that I think I will faint but I just keep pushing through it. That is why blogging has been so good for me, because it forces me to interact with people. I can't believe I am sharing this.

2. Julia asks: If you won $100,000 what changes would you make?

I would give it all away. I don't think I would change my life as it is now. God did so much to get me here. I am very thankful for the place I am and since the robbery's at my brothers house, I have really thought about what is important to me and it is my friends and family and my relationships.

3. McGuffy Ann asks: What's the most unusual pet you've had?

My raccoon. I loved my raccoon, she was like my child. She went everywhere with me. Even when I swam in the swimming pool she hung on to my back. I took her for rides in my car and I loved her so much. I always thought of getting another one sometime or maybe even a fox. I do enjoy taming animals. Maybe a bobcat.

4. When do you start decorating for Christmas?

The day after Thanksgiving and it all comes down December 26th.

5. What's your favorite type of magazine to read?

Sewing or County Living or cooking ones or decorating ones. I like them all.

Thanks to Patrice and all of the really nice questions this week.

~Kim~

Pff, I haven't known what day it was all week. I read your post and thought you were a day late. No, I was a day early!

If you got a bobcat, that would be really awesome. But you couldn't have chickens.

I love your blog! Thanks for visiting me! I am now a new follower, and hope you will follow me, too.
Actually, I did have a pet skunk.I almost chose to say my weird pet monkey! I have had a lot of pets, many odd ones. We have raised raccoons, opossums, and other critters, too...always something. I love critters, and still do rescue. Have a great day!

Good morning Kim,
I am learning so many things about you through these chats on the front porch, I too like to take my decorations down fairly quickly after Christmas , but usually put them up early because of having so many. However this year, I am not sure what I will do.
My Dad had a pet raccoon when I was small and he enjoyed him so much, we weren't allowed to play with him, because Dad didn't know if he would hurt us or not. We have a lot of them here on the farm, and Kim, I will tell you they are not welcome, especially in summer when my corn is coming off. You should have seen the mess they made in my garden. I had to rush to gather the corn they were eating it so fast. lol

I am so glad that you overcame agoraphobia! Fear of so many things is something I think we all have to deal with, it is one of the tools satan uses to discourage God's people, and pull us down. But I am so thankful for Victory in Jesus.
I didn't get by yesterday as I have been trying to catchup with blogging and i started Giving of Thanks challenge, I am not used to writing everyday, it takes me forever to put a post up.~smile~.

Want to hear something funny? it took me three times to link up properly with Mr linky, I bet leah over at South breeze farm thought she had really found a ninny. lol I know you are so busy, but i would loved for you to join, you are so gifted with expressing your thoughts, and always are so thankful. I decided to do this meme for lots of reasons especially for me, I need to do some spiritual growing.
Well as usual I have written a long letter.
Hope you are enjoying beautiful weather, we are today, and I will be out enjoying it.
Hugs,
Sue

Thank you for coming by, and for all of your encouragement.

Isn't it lovely to be able to say we could give it all away?
We had a pet raccoon who was actually someone else's pet that escaped. It was pretty hard to convince him to return home!

Hi there, Loved reading this; I too am so thankful for all the ways the Lord has rescued me-I suffered fear of earthquakes because we were in a big one in Ca. I'd love to sit and have a cup of coffee or tea with you on your porch. We've got snow, so if you came here we'd stay inside.
Hugs, Noreen

I think we all battle fear. I know I do. Some handle it better than others. I ask for help with it everyday. It's a matter of living in the moment...it seems to help. It's good to know there are good friends and helpers available along our path, isn't it?! And of course faith and prayer!
Hugs to you!

Enjoyed the insight of you. Fear helps us grow. I think of the times that I have overcome fear, and how good I felt, and the additional confidence that it gave me. Great answers!

Hi FG, I'm blown away by your answers, from giving $100,000 away (think of me), and having a pet raccoon. ;)
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and visits to both of my blogs. Totally understood abstaining from the snails in beer solution. ;) But then again, I've learned that people are always going to talk and if my actions come with a pure heart/motive, I need not worry. In the end, believers are simply imperfect people trusting a perfect God. So many of our actions could be a stumbling block. We'd be completely tied up. BUT, I do get the reasoning behind that snails in beer choice.
Fear...such an endless topic. It was never my thing but I've recently encountered it head on through some of life's blows. In the end, there's only one solution to combat fear. Perfect love. So I see it as a dare/challenge. Fear comes my way, I must simply love more intensely and purposely. Hope this makes sense.
Loved visiting. Enjoy your day.

Oh I so enjoyed this chat...I was heavy today and this just lifted my spirit.
Keep up that blogging and run that fear out of your life!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go girl!!!!!!!!!

Oh a raccoon...my aunt had one as a pet and I have heard about it all my life. My granddad had a big cage outside for raccoons...it had a tree right up the middle. I still love them and have stories of them visiting us in our back yard.

Love your mag picks...if we were closer we could exchange.

As always...love my visits on your front porch

Hello Sweetie Pie!
Have you read Rascal? Sterling North wrote it and it's such a happy raccoon story.
You are so open-hearted, sharing your fear and your struggle over time. You are tended to and nurtured by the King of kings and it shows.

Wow, I didn't know you had the actual anxiety like I do. Ben always just told me you kind of get a nervous stomach too. Gosh, you don't know how much better that makes me feel.

I got a few cans of clams at the store and I think you said you had posted your recipe for chowder, but I cannot find it for the life of me... Would you mind emailing it?

Oh Kim, I had no idea that you had to battle fear like that. I always thought of you as totally fearless because I remember the time you went into this creepy neighborhood to read a sign. I can't remember what the sign said but it was creepy. Cannibal seems to come to mind.

Gee you could give me the $100,00. 00 because I have so many things to fix in this house. I listed what I would buy on Patrice's blog but I forgot that I need a railing on my stairs. When we removed the rugs from the house we also removed the rug from the stairs and the wroth iron railing didn't fit after so it was left like that.

You do share from the heart as a blogger said. Take care, hugs. JB

Hi1

I know I am behind for this post, but for some reason I couldn't get the comment section to work this morning...sigh...sometimes this computer drives me soo wild. I wanted to tell you how much I can relate to the fear thing. I (and many others in my family) have suffered from anxiety pretty much my whole life. I truly believe that a tendency for that is genetic. But no matter rather it is or not, it is a VERY difficult thing to deal with. It has been years and years, but I have dealt with full blown panic attacks and they are sooo awful. I have never not been able to actually leave my home, but I do NOT like being very far away from it even to this day.....going all the way to Mel's sometimes is quite difficult. I still struggle with it at times and have to beat it down when it comes knocking on my door. I do know that the ONLY way I have ever had of coping with it that has really worked is through the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. Whatever in the world would have become of me without Him, I don't want to even imagine. Sooo, not only do I owe the Lord for my very salvation in the next life, but for my peace and comfort while I am here on this earth...

I am amazed at your answer to #2!! Not many people could have answered that way, and I admire you.

And a raccoon?!? seriously, haha...We came across one in the mountains when we were growing up, (we had a cabin in Big Bear) and it was downright scary!

I really enjoy these answer posts. Hope you had a good day!
