Dreaming in the Twilight

I was sitting last night dreaming in the twilight. The sky was turning
from rosy pink to the soft gray of a dove's wing, into the slowly
darkening sky. As I sat and watched the breeze toss the leaves in
the trees, I could hear the sound of the ocean surf in the pines and then
the sound of the cottonwoods as they spoke of the coming of fall.
I watched as the leaves were drifting down and sitting quietly beneath
the trees.

The moon came out from the clouds that had kept its light from shining.
The path on my porch was so bright that it looked as if someone was standing
with a flashlight to light my way.
A mockingbird began to sing and as I listened to him go through his songs.
I tried to pick out each bird it was mocking. I loved that he was singing to the moon.
Even though it is still hot during the day I noticed that as I walked in
the grass the ground is beginning to cool down. The grass is now cold to my
feet.

As I sat and listened, I could hear the quiet chirping of the
tired crickets. I could hear the clicking of the katydids in the trees.
As I sat I could smell the faint smell of memories of long ago come
drifting on the wind.

Such are the dreams in the twilight, the door opens, as someone
asks a question and the ghosts of long ago retreat and life comes
in and gone are the twilight dreams to be replaced with the lovely
sounds of home, and comfort and of the love that daily surrounds me.

Have a lovely Thursday, may all of your wishes come true today.

Hey Kim, this post is delightful. Such a poetic soul as you describe what you observed in your surroundings. I love how you wrote with such sentiments.

Here the air is damp and cold in the evening already. It all happened too fast and I'm not ready to let go of the warm late summer evening without mosquitoes while I watch the stars laying on the swing on the back deck. It didn't even happened this late summer because of all the rain.

I wish I had time to dream in the twilight. Know how we passed our twilight this evening? Dancing around the living room to Veggietales songs. :-p

Oh! in a book I am reading he talks about how important it is to get out and enjoy nature, how we grow spiritually while seeing the handiwork of God...how God becomes bigger when we take the time to just enjoy his creation....You have done such a wonderful job of doing that here, that is why you are so productive, you are able to relax and see His work.

I read your post over a few times. Each time it brought tears to my eyes. It is so descriptive, so tender. I think my favorite image is this one:
"As I sat I could smell the faint smell of memories of long ago come drifting on the wind." I just love that! Thank you so much for putting your thoughts and feelings down in words for us to read and somehow participate also. Wow! This is incredible!
