Parrots

We were finally able to get a picture of the parrots. I am sorry that this video isn't better.
I stood rooted to the spot and then I thought if I walked a bit closer I could get a close up.
Then they flew away. They like to sneak in and eat the sunflowers. I don't know why last night
they were being so vocal. It could have been that my husband and I were walking around the garden
and they were waiting for us to leave.
I will keep trying to get a close up of them as they are so bluish green and so big. They
have a red and blue ring around their neck. Their proper name is a ring necked Parakeet.
They are not local. Our newspaper did an article on them and said that in 1977 when we had a huge
dust storm two parrots got free and now we have large populations of them all over the place.
They are very shy and I never notice them bothering other birds. When they start eating
my sunflowers the eat them all. The snip of a head and fly with it up in another tree and sit and
eat it.
I hope I planted the right kind of sunflowers this year because about August-September we get flocks
of love birds. I really enjoy those and they do let me get a bit closer.
Thanks for watching,

Gosh I don't think I've seen any that big. The one's that used to eat from the pecan tree behind mimi's house were probably half that size.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful birds with us. We don't get any tropical birds around here except in pet shops. Great photo Kim. JB

They are beautiful, and just chattering away too :) Interesting story about how they came to your area.
My daughter actually found 2 dresses, at Kohl's of all places. They were about $30 each so she got both because she liked them both. At the bridal shower all the bridesmaids brought their dresses and she was able to see which one went better with the rest of the groups. She loves dresses, so she'll end up wearing both alot. When the wedding comes (in August) I'll post a photo :)
Blessings,
Marcia

Absolutely amazing to have parrots!
Do they impact the native species?
