Things I Did Today

With it getting hot this week, I knew this morning,
I needed to really work hard in the garden and get lots
of weeds chopped. I went out early and worked 3 hours.

Today is Monday, I do my house work and my laundry on Monday.
I would walk back and forth between the house and the garden.
I need the exercise so I figured it beat walking and being bored
to tears walking in the heat.
I also needed to go shopping today. When I work hard outside I try not
to drive. I make mistakes when I get tired. But I really needed to go to
Wal Mart and the grocery store. They are remodeling Wal Mart. I was glad
I wasn't in a hurry. Nothing is where it used to be and they are moving
things around so much that if it was there today, it won't be there tomorrow.

Then they had only two checkers working. Two... I waited in line for
almost 1 hour. I got to stand and watch people. I had a lady walk up and
start going through my basket. I stood and watched. She looked up at me
and asked" if the beach towels I was buying were on sale." I said no, She said
"why are you buying so many?" I said," because I don't have any." She wanted
to know why, I was totally intrigued by her, I told her that they got used
for rags. She said, "Oh," and went back to her basket. She kept looking at me
but she couldn't think of anything else to say.

Then I had to go to the grocery store as my kids are making smoothies
and since I am so happy they are drinking smoothies and not soda I am happy to go.

At the check out line there was an older woman in one of those carts people drive.
She was in front of me, and I could tell that she was getting upset about something.
I asked her if there was something I could do, " She said that her daughter was
supposed to be coming with more stuff. I told her that I wouldn't unload my cart
I would wait for her daughter to not worry. She smiled a bit,
Her daughter came up and I said, " I was waiting for you, go ahead." She said thank you,
and she asked her Mom if she had got bread, the Mom said" No, she had forgot." I told
the daughter I would wait if she wanted to run back and get it, she said , "no it was okay".

When the older lady was finished, she turned around in her little cart and made eye contact
and smiled and said thank you so much for being kind. I smiled back but her smile made
me feel so good.
So what did I learn? I was glad that I wasn't in a hurry today. I was glad that I had time
to just wait because I get to see things I wouldn't normally see.
I am glad that sometimes I live what I believe. I am glad that today was one of those
days.

You know, I did get all of my work finished too.

oh, i'd have been smacking the hands of that woman rummaging thru my cart!!!

You know Kim, we must be very similar. There could be 18 people in line and that one person that might be a little different or need a little help will always come to me. My mother told me once to where blinders and avoid eye contact. LOL

You know...you're amazing.
I am not sure I would have done what you did...or allowed. (HANDS OFF MY BASKET!;))
You are a good model for what I wish I was....
thank you.
I'm glad you weren't in a hurry either.
hugs

I'd have freaked out if someone went through my cart. I'm very territorial! Some folks! You were a well behaved person. That's my friend Kim. You could have looked at her and said "You know, I have a friend named Patrice who would be very upset if you were going through her basket. Likely as not, she would whack you with a wooden spoon or a whisk- you know- she's a chef." That would have changed the whole course of the interaction! She'd have run with fear and trembling. You know how those chefs are!!!

The second interaction was much better. Some folks just need to have someone be nice to them.

I love seeing your sunflowers, and hearing about your busy day. How can anyone ever be bored with all the things we must do in life each day? I am thrilled your kids like smoothies too!

It always amazes me what people are like standing in lines. I always get groceries on Monday. If somebody has less, I always let them go ahead. Usually I say, I'm not in a hurry because I just have to go home and cook it. You'd be amazed how many people don't say thank you. There are also many who are very grateful. Funny what you learn in a line. Glad you were patient with the lady at the grocery store.

I would say that was a VERY good day Kim! I think the lessons you taught yourself were well worth the waiting in line. I love it when I do something that is selfless, it always makes me happy. YOU made me happy today! :)

I live 100 miles from a Wal Mart and just made my first visit to one in 2011 yesterday. Just can't take it there. Although you can beat the prices.

It is always more satisfying to lead with kindness. I loved what you said about that smile! People just aren't used to kindness from others. They hardly expect it anymore. I really like the saying, "would you rather be right, or would you rather be at peace?" Kindness brings a lot of peace!!
Hugs!

That is so sweet. I remember being much "younger" and getting frustrated when my grandmother was holding up the line looking for the exact change in her little purse. Now I often think of that when I'm in a line and there are seniors in front of me. I just smile and let them take as long as they need. With age comes wisdom eh!

Oh yeah, I forgot - I can't believe some stranger went through your cart! OMG I might have slapped her hand.

Great great post...that is a very good day and a reminder to us all that just slow down and God will work it all out.
The lady asking about the towels is too funny....you took what we all do everyday and made us look for all the interesting things in each day...thanks.

you are so wise. haste not only makes waste, but
unhappiness. whenever i'm in a hurry, someone
always slows me down.

I love how the interesting little tid-bits and interactions in your Wal-mart experience resulted in gratitude Kim. Gratitude for simple kindness. It's so easy to get swept up in our emotions. But when we do what we know is right God is glorified in us. I have a friend that is the eyes of the body. He notices everything and steps in with quiet kindness at just the right moment. You were the eyes in the checkout line and you made a sweet difference...

Blessings, Debbie

Kim, you are a kind person and I guess that you see the face of Christ in everyone you meet even at Wal-Mart, and I didn't forget, you have kisses for everyone. So glad that you are my friend. Have a wonderful week. JB

You were the Jesus that woman needed to see; bless you! None of us knows what personal hell anyone else is going through; it pays to be gentle, one with another.

Have to wonder if the cart-rummaging woman wasn't a little *off*. That's such an odd thing to do!

You made me smile with the older lady...you never know if your kindness is the only kindness someone receives that day. A little kindness matters! :)

What a sweet story Kim. It might not completely apply but this story brought to mind that verse, "they that wait on the Lord will renew their strength".
