Summer Days

I love flowers because they are always a surprise.
I have these growing in the flowerbed and I suppose I planted
them when the kids got married but I don't remember it.
When you have two weddings are your house, 3 weeks apart
and it is your two oldest children, you tend to forget things
like who planted these flowers. So I have a nice surprise every year.

We were outside working yesterday. I went to turn on the water
to water my chickens and this is what I saw.

This water balloon hanging from a tree, well the rope
between the trees. I looked around and I saw this.

A much bigger water balloon. It was tied to a branch
and it was really hanging down filled with water.

Then up in the middle of the arch was another water
balloon. My first thought was why the boobie traps.
Later I asked my sons, what are you guys up to with all
of the water balloons.
They were doing a science experiment. They wanted to see
how long it would take the sun hitting the rubber in the balloon
to deteriorate. They wanted to see if the weight of the water
made any difference and if being in the sun or in the shade made
any difference.

It always makes me ponder why do I home school anyway. They
do things on their own without my input.
Oh and the yellow balloon, the one with the most water.
My husband was out there working by himself and all of a sudden
he hears a loud explosion and the sound of water and he looks to see
water gushing out out the tree.
I overheard him describing to the boys how cool it looked and the sound
it made. The boys wanted to know about the way the sun was hitting it
and all of that.

I just laughed.
I love summer.

hey, you've gotta admit, your kids have great imaginations - and scientific instincts too. :)

I'm excited by your boys initiative! Personally, that's what I desire to see more than anything else in our home school. Some of my kids have more than others. ;)

I have to admit that I first thought that the balloons were booby traps and wondered how on earth the boys thought they were going to go undetected!

LOL! Wow, what a good experiment! Good thing the experiment didn't end while you were under them, though. ;)

Cool experiment . It's too bad it wasn't captured on video when the balloon busted. I'm glad that it didn't exploded on your husband while he was working. That would have had a cooling effect for sure. lol.. Have a great day Kim. Hugs. JB

Haha! That is hilarious! Ryan pointed out that any of those balloons could have been easily popped on someone with a well-placed airsoft bullet. So I'm glad they were only an experiment.

What fun! Your boys are very creative, good for them and good for you too!!! I miss those days, my two boys were always experimenting with rockets! BTW, I do not see ONE weed in your gardens! Oh and I keep forgetting to mention how much I love your header, just beautiful. Hugs, Julie.

Smart boys...what a neat idea! Glad you are enjoying your summer. They say we are going to "roast" for the next few days....100+ days! Oh boy...cant wait! :-)

Honey, they do cool things like that on their own because you do home school! Learning should be fun and life-long. I have 26 kids in my class, and this year...I find it hard to let them be creative and spontaneous...not my idea of good teaching. The water balloons made my day!
