Friday Pretties!

I am linking today with Joyce at I Love Pretty Things.
I wasn't feeling much like a farm girl tonight. I was longing
for pretty things and girly things. I have been chopping weeds
for 4 days. I need to do something else beside think about how
I need to sharpen my hula-hoe and I need a new pair of gloves,
I put a hole in mine this week. So visit all of the wonderful ladies
who are linking up they have such beautiful things to share.

I was out early in the morning because I try to work two
hours before I have to start school for the boys and then
after I do school I try and get a couple of more hours in I wanted
to tell you about the things I notice.

When I first open the door to go outside. The
smell of the warming earth greets me like a forgotten friend. I feel myself slipping away and
I stare at the sun rising and the smell of the dew in the grass. As I walk
out to where I am going to be working a woodpecker flies over with the red
of his wings flashing in the softly warming air. The lady bugs are starting to hatch
so I have seen a few climbing up the tall grass. The blue jays scold me as I
disturb them as I start toward the trees they are trying to build a nest.

I stood and watched little tiny finches who eat tiny bugs
that are on the yellow flowers of the dandelion. Then I watch
as a little brown female pecks the seed pod and the seeds go
floating off into the morning sunlight glistening like small diamonds
of the air.
I stood and looked at a Crab-apple tree that is finally awake. I noticed
something today about a crab-apple verses a regular fruit tree. A crab-apple
gets it's leaves first and then the blooms. My peach and plum and nectarine
trees get blooms first then leaves. My Rose of Sharon is finally waking up too.
I really need to move her in the yard where it isn't so hot. It is funny, my fruit
trees are girls and my shade trees are boys in my head. It must that the fruit trees
bear fruit.
I know I shouldn't say this and I don't mean to be
unkind, but my nut trees are boys. :)

I hope you have a lovely Friday. I think what I love
about spring is that the sky is blue and no matter how
cold it might get or how windy or how rainy. I know
that winter is over.
Have a lovely Friday.

I don't have fruit trees yet, so I don't know what gender they would be. But I do think of all our none-bearing plants - the Ash in the front and Albert the banana/palm thing - as boys too.

What a beautiful post. My flowers are stirring and the vibrant colors have started to call me out to the garden. We put in a new peach tree in the fall and as the blossoms fade the sweet fruit is showing itself. I love spring...

So glad you have been out side this week Kim, I enjoy spring for all of the reasons you have described, I felt as though I was there with you. I wear holes in my gloves every season, and when I look at them, It lets me know I have been busy. LOL
Enjoyed your thought of which trees were which. Your flowers are beautiful.
Some of our fruit trees have already bloomed, and we heard tonight that late next week we will be under a frost.. freeze warning. UGH! not happy about that. I will be digging the old sheets out to cover them.
. Enjoy your day, I was hoping you would post before I went to bed, we are up late as dh has been watching the basket ball games on Tv, of course I get to blog . LOl.
Hugs,
Sue

You have such a gift for explaining the sweet beauty around you. You almost don't need pictures. But then I'd miss your gorgeous flower pictures, so don't do that... :)

Kim, I love how you take the time to looks at everything with such delight, even the seed of a dandelion flower floating like diamonds. Your flowering trees must be such delights. Take some pictures of the whole trees in bloom for us.

I think it's funny that you think of fruits trees as girls and shade trees and nut trees as boys...

You remind me of the girls on Little House on the Prairie, outdoorsy and
yet homemakers. Have a lovely weekend. JB
