Making Stuff

This is my scroll saw. I like my sewing machine
but I love my scroll saw. I really do like working with
wood and I like cutting stuff out from pine.
It was cool enough yesterday to work out in my husband's
shed.

I took this piece of pine and I cut out 11 star shapes.

I took this fence board that was in my husbands
junk woodpile. My son does welding on the side and
he took down someones old fence and gate to replace
it with a wrought iron one and on his way back home,
stopped and asked if we wanted the fence boards.
We took some but not all of them and now I wish
I had taken all of them. Every time I look at this
old fence wood, things just start coming in my mind
to make.
So I cut the fence board, sanded it, painted it with
acrylic white paint, two coats, then stained it with
cherry stain and then I thought it was too red so I took
a old cloth and wiped white all over it again, and then
sanded it again.
I painted my stars all white and I left them alone because
I wanted them to remain crisp and white.
My husband helped me get them on the fence boards and
now we have this.

I think it turned out so nice, It looks so nice in my living
room. When I make stuff, I make it and put it away, because
I am sick of looking at it but not this, I liked it the whole
time I was making it.

It looks like this hanging in my living room. The
walls in my house are all at angles so this wall,
has driven me nuts to try and get something
to look all right on the wall.
This was my weekend project. Oh, and I didn't
get my flowerbeds weeded. I was playing.
Have a great Monday!

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, for His wonderful works to the children of men!

(Psalm. 107:6)

Oh, I'm so glad you got to play with wood this weekend! Those stars are really, really cute. But I think you need some raffia to hang down across it. :-)

I thought that too, something else to soften the wood. I keep staring at it and I still can't figure out what else.

Maybe some random tiny metal stars on the wood in between the big stars, to break up the rigid lines. And they could be red and blue to add color!

When you see it in person you will be able to see better what it needs.

WOW! I am impressed! I once used a radial arm saw to make a bazillion pointed pickets for our picket fence, but a scroll saw...hmmmm, not sure I could do that. That star board is wonderful! Personally, I like it just the way it is. You rock!

Wow! That looks great. When on earth did you learn how to use a scroll saw? Lovely.

I have a few things in commend with you and using a saw is one -- the project is nicely done - I love stars too and I am thinking about buying a few to put on my Dad's chicken coop - remember the red coop - well we are leaving this Thursday to finish up - then off on our Aug, get a way! Summer is slipping away- grr - to fast- wink!
